DC diners, get ready for a comeback four years in the making. Local hospitality group Popal Group is reviving The Berliner, bringing a sense of community and a taste of German beer-hall culture to the District this fall, reports Eater DC.
Although the Berliner lived its first life in Georgetown until its closure in 2022, it will be beginning its new chapter in Adams Morgan. Local foodies who loved the atmosphere and spirit of the restaurant’s original home needn’t worry about the relocation; the Popal Group assures future regulars that it will be bringing “the same communal spirit, hearty fare, and convivial hospitality” to 2436 18th Street NW.
While a precise opening date has not yet been announced for The Berliner’s second act, the concept should be customer-ready in October.
Locals who do not recall The Berliner have plenty to look forward to; the company website describes the concept’s past and its pending future, saying: “The Berliner began as a bold reinterpretation of German beer-hall culture; transforming a Georgetown warehouse into a lively home for house-made sausages, pretzels, and an expansive beer lineup inspired by Berlin’s vibrant street-food traditions.”
