Hôtel du Fjord, a 34-room hotel located in downtown Chicoutimi in Saguenay at 241 Rue Morin, has been sold to a new ownership group behind Auberge Le Parasol and co-owners of Refuge du Fjord.

The property was previously owned by Gilles Blanchette. The sale includes the hotel building, a pub and billiards hall, the Vertige bar, and an adjacent lot, according to Informe Affaires. The ownership group comprises Vincent Alarie-Tardif, Olivier Marcotte, Mickaël Tremblay, Alexandre Tremblay, Louis Ouellet-Gilbert, and Nikolas Ouellet-Gilbert. About 20 jobs at the hotel are expected to be retained following the transition.

The new owners say the property’s location and views of the Saguenay River were key factors in the acquisition. The hotel is situated near Auberge Le Parasol, which the group already operates, creating potential for shared operations and efficiencies across the two properties. The building has already undergone significant renovations, with much of the interior previously redone before the sale.

The group is planning to reposition the hotel toward a more vacation-oriented, family-friendly concept, similar to Auberge Le Parasol, while maintaining its own identity in the market. In the short term, updates will include replacing bedding and select furniture, with consideration being given to adding a restaurant in a later phase.

Longer-term plans include a broader mixed-use development on adjacent land, featuring a 46-unit residential building designed for short-, medium-, and long-term stays. The project would also include two commercial spaces, with completion expected within three to five years. The development is intended to strengthen the site as a hospitality and residential hub along the Saguenay River corridor.
