A new classical Pilates studio is coming to McKinney. Calibrate Pilates Studio, founded by certified Pilates instructor Valerie Penn, is set to open in November 2026 at 2801 S. Stonebridge Drive, Suite 104, in Collin County. The studio will offer small classes, private sessions, duets, and access to the full Pilates apparatus, including ladder barrels, chairs, towers, and Cadillac reformers, setting it apart from the reformer-focused chains that have dominated the fitness market in recent years.
What Now Dallas talked to Valerie Penn, who shared she conceives Calibrate Pilates Studio as more than a health club. “This is a community. You come in, and I’m gonna know your name. All of my instructors are gonna know your name. We’re gonna know what your unique goals are.”
Penn’s path to opening the studio is rooted in her personal experience. After spending years in the corporate world, she was diagnosed with four herniated discs in her neck and turned to classical Pilates as an alternative to surgery or medication. The results led her to pursue a Level 3 Peak Pilates certification, the highest available, and eventually to launch Calibrate Pilates Studio.
According to Penn, Calibrate Pilates Studio is an answer to a clear gap in the McKinney market. While reformer-based studios have proliferated across the area, very few offer the individualized, classical approach she trained in and believes in. “The only way that you could hydrate your spine is by movement,” she said, echoing the advice that first sent her back to the mat.
The studio centers all around health, and also targets what Penn calls the “longevity generation:” people who are not chasing aesthetics but functional strength. “They wanna be able to go to Europe and walk on cobblestone streets without falling. They wanna be able to go skiing. They wanna be able to grab groceries out of their bag and twist around and not wrench their back,” she told What Now Dallas.
Founding member spots will begin accepting applications in late July or early August, ahead of the November opening. Top-tier founding members will have access to a limited set of perks, including a three-day, two-night stay at Canyon Ranch Austin, which is also slated to open later this year.
If growth goes as planned, Penn hopes to open a second location further north in the Melissa-Anna area, where she sees significant residential expansion and little classical Pilates presence.
