Oishii Boston has announced the closure of its historic Boston location. The landmark Japanese restaurant will serve its final meal this Father’s Day, on June 21.
Boston’s Oishii Japanese Restaurant Announces Permanent Closure
Operated by Chef Ting Yen, Oishii began its journey in 1998 as a tiny sushi bar. The original location was situated in Chestnut Hill, and in 2006, the restaurant expanded to the South End.
The restaurant serves sushi, omakase meals, and other traditional Japanese dishes. Popular items on the menu include salmon on fire, hamachi, wagyu beef, and black cod.
In an Instagram post, the Oishii restaurant team shared the heartbreaking news of the closure after nearly three decades of operation. They said, “After many unforgettable years, Oishii Boston will be closing its doors at the end of business on Father’s Day.”

The team thanked the community, “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have served our guests, shared special celebrations, and been a part of so many cherished memories.”
“We are proud of the history we have built together—from countless first dates, family dinners, and milestone celebrations to the friendships and connections formed around our tables. Your support, encouragement, and trust have meant more to us than words can express,” mentioned the team.
In the post, the restaurant team did not share any official reason for its closure.
Community Responses on Social Media
Following the announcement, customers shared messages of disappointment on Instagram. “So sad to hear. Oishii has always been one of my favorite restaurants, and Chef Ting remains one of my favorite chefs,” a customer commented.
For its final night celebration, the restaurant team encourages guests to visit and enjoy one last meal before its closure.
