Max Strength Fitness is preparing to open its first Charlotte-area franchise at 4715 Park Road, Suite A, with franchise owners Emma Elliot and her husband aiming to welcome members by August 31 or early September. Elliot shared details about the upcoming studio during an exclusive interview with WhatNow Charlotte.

For Elliot, opening the business is a natural extension of a career centered on improving people’s health. She said her experience as a clinical pharmacist, combined with her husband’s work managing retirement communities, inspired the couple to invest in a concept focused on helping people stay healthier for longer.

“Healthcare has been central to our household,” Elliot told WhatNow Charlotte. “We wanted to approach that same clientele a little more upstream—to help expand their health span instead of seeing them when they’re acutely ill or later in life.”

Rather than catering to seasoned fitness enthusiasts, Elliot said Max Strength Fitness is designed for adults who may find traditional gyms intimidating or feel they don’t belong in those environments.

“When we open later this summer, people can expect a strength training gym that’s really made for people who don’t feel comfortable in a gym and don’t see themselves as ‘gym rats,'” Elliot said. “We want to help them stay independent, energetic, active and capable as they age.”

The studio will offer private, one-on-one strength training sessions instead of group fitness classes. Elliot said the format is designed to fit busy schedules, with workouts lasting just 20 minutes twice a week.

“It’s a low barrier to entry for busy adults,” Elliot said. “It’s private and personalized because it’s one trainer to one client. It’s really designed for people who thought strength training wasn’t for them, whether that’s because of their confidence or the time commitment.”

Although the SouthPark studio will be the couple’s first Max Strength Fitness franchise, Elliot said expansion is already on the horizon. The franchise owners hope to open a second location in the Ballantyne area about a year after the SouthPark studio debuts, though the timeline will depend on how quickly the first location stabilizes and commercial real estate opportunities become available.
