Little Bull is preparing to relocate from its original Durham home to a larger restaurant at 301 E. Chapel Hill St., with reopening planned for August 3, according to The News & Observer.
Chef Oscar Diaz opened the modern Mexican concept on Mangum Street in 2023, where it quickly gained recognition for its menu. According to The News & Observer, Little Bull was recently named a Michelin-recommended restaurant and was also included in the publication’s Top 50 Restaurants in the Triangle.
The move will allow Diaz to bring elements of his original vision for the restaurant to life. He told the publication that the expanded space will accommodate live-fire cooking, something that wasn’t possible at the current location.
“We decided we had to move it,” Diaz told the publication. “We’re so proud of what we’ve been able to do there.”
According to The News & Observer, the building has been under renovation by the Mezcalito Group since 2024. The property was initially slated to become a steakhouse before the restaurant group decided to relocate Little Bull instead.
Since partnering with Mezcalito Group in 2023, Diaz has expanded his footprint with two Aaktun locations, Tataco in Durham and the recently opened cocktail bar Barbaro. The chef also appeared on Top Chef: Carolinas earlier this year.
Looking ahead, Diaz told The News & Observer that the larger restaurant will create new opportunities for Little Bull as the team continues building on the concept’s early success.
