Fitstop is embarking on a major Texas debut. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the Australian-born fitness brand is opening its first Texas location in the Memorial at Kirkwood retail center in Houston at 14058 Memorial Drive.
The permit details that construction is planned to start at the top of September and wrap up in December. The Houston Business Journal reports that Fitstop has signed a four-unit franchise agreement with Houston franchisee Victor Guo, who plans to open the Memorial Drive Fitstop in the Energy Corridor on Sept. 12.
What Now Houston reached out to Guo, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
The permit for the new Fitstop details that the estimated $450, 000 construction project entails renovating an existing suite from a learning center into the fitness studio.
What Now also reached out to Fitstop’s lead of US Operations, Bruce Sarmento, who was unable to share further details.
“Fitstop is functional group fitness for life,” the Fitstop website reads.
“We deliver performance-driven strength and conditioning in a coach-led, team-training environment. Every workout is built with one goal: your progress, in the gym and beyond.”
Fitstop was founded in 2013 by former motocross athlete Peter Hull in Brisbane, Australia. Starting in his parents’ garage, Hull adapted his elite athletic training into a group fitness model. Since its inception, the brand has grown into an international franchise with locations across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the U.S. There are now more than 167 Fitstop locations around the world. The four-unit agreement between Fitstop and Guo is just the beginning of the brand’s expansion in Texas.
