Drama Club opened in Chicago on July 9, 2026. The agave-focused cocktail bar by Scofflaw Group brings affordable cocktails, an extensive tequila and mezcal selection, and a neighborhood-driven atmosphere.

Drama Club Opens in Humboldt Park

The Drama Club, located at 819 N. California Ave. between Ukrainian Village and Humboldt Park, is now open. The venue is the hospitality group’s newest concept, expanding its portfolio of Chicago bars.

Building on the spirit-focused approach Scofflaw introduced in 2012, Drama Club shifts the focus from gin to agave spirits. The cocktail menu is supported by one of Chicago’s largest tequila and mezcal collections. It includes some classic cocktails with an agave flair.

Signature drinks include the Offline Crush, a mezcal sour with salted cucumber juice, lime, green cardamom, and mint. Another option is For Funsies, a tequila-based espresso martini made with rum, Licor 43, cold brew, banana oleo, and topped with a plantain chip.

Most cocktails are priced at $12. The venue also features nightly DJs, including DJ Major Taylor and friends on Fridays. Inside, guests can expect orange velvet furnishings, curved banquettes, and tropical greenery behind the venue’s black-brick exterior.

The owners announced the opening with the idea of bringing a neighborhood bar offering quality cocktails and low prices in a stylish ambiance. Scofflaw Group added, “This neighborhood is full of people who love a good bar, and we want Drama Club to be theirs.”

Drama Club is open Thursday to Sunday from 6 pm to 2 am, with extended hours until 3 am on Saturdays. The bar is for 21+, accepts walk-ins only, and is led by General Manager Bree Romero, while Jason Basa Nemec oversees the beverage program.

Scofflaw Group was founded with the opening of Scofflaw in 2012 and is known for its neighborhood bars and spirit-focused cocktail programs. The Chicago hospitality company has grown its portfolio to include Slippery Slope, Heavy Feather, Moonlighter, Outside Voices and now Drama Club.

Each concept is unique, but the group’s strategy is always the same, matching thoughtful drinks with inviting environments to become community hubs. Drama Club continues that philosophy, with an emphasis on agave spirits at easy-to-afford price points and in friendly surroundings.
