Deep Ellum neighborhood favorite cheese and charcuterie shop has permanently closed after a brief reopening. Amor Y Queso served diners for six years. The shop owner shared the closure announcement on social media on July 22.
Amor Y Queso Shuts Down Shortly After Reopening
Amor Y Queso began its journey during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 as a concept. It then opened its brick-and-mortar storefront in Deep Ellum in December 2020.
According to the CultureMap Dallas report, the business later shifted from retail operations to a catering and prep kitchen. After a post-pandemic boom gave way to slower business, she closed the retail shop in 2023 and continued operating the space as a catering kitchen while rethinking the concept.
The shop reopened its storefront and featured local snacks, pastries, and lunch items. It was known for offering custom charcuterie boards, grab-and-go grazing boxes, and other event platters. The store was a perfect place for the community to shop for quick gourmet treats.
However, the Amor Y Queso storefront located at 2932 Main St Ste 102 in Dallas, Texas, has permanently closed. The owner of the shop, Sarah Carlock, shared the heartbreaking news of closure on Instagram on July 22.
Carlock said the storefront is closing but noted that she has not ruled out a future for AYQ and plans to share updates when available.

Reason for the Closure
The shop was facing financial challenges along with slow sales, which led to the closure. In a Dallas News report, the owner stated, “I was losing money every day that I was open.”
In the official closure announcement post, the owner explained that rising crime in the neighborhood also drove the decision.
She added, “Deep Ellum has been one of my favorite hoods in Dallas for a long time. I wish more were said about the businesses that exist there in the daytime, instead of just horror stories of what happens after sunset.”
In her farewell message, she encouraged the community to be more supportive of local artists and businesses. She thanked the community for its support. Even though it was short-lived, the Amor Y Queso shop has made a significant impact on Deep Ellum.
