One of Austin’s fastest-growing taquería concepts is heading to the Guadalupe Street corridor. According to public filings, Taquería de Diez, plans to open at 3023 Guadalupe St.
What Now Austin spoke to founder Raul Esquer, who said there is a mid-September opening in sight. “It would be a great date for us to open the taquería and celebrate also Mexico’s Independence Day,” he said, referencing September 16.
The Guadalupe location holds special meaning for the team. The space previously housed Chango’s Taquería, a longtime Austin staple. “We want to honor what that family was able to do for the longest time in Mexican food and convert it into a good, high-traffic taquería,” Esquer told What Now Austin.
The address also places the brand closer to UT Austin, the Hyde Park neighborhood, and a broader base of customers coming from the north side of the city, a market Esquer said the brand has been eager to reach.
The opening is part of an aggressive expansion push. Esquer exclusively shared with What Now Austin that Taquería de Diez is also planning a Domain location, a deal signed with Simon Group, the largest commercial real estate developer in the country, which Esquer said could open by the end of 2026.
“If you know people that like soccer, they like tacos,” Esquer said of the Domain spot, noting its proximity to Q2 Stadium.What Now Austin has also reported on a third location at 500 E. 6th St., that is expected to follow in Q1 or Q2 of 2027. .
Nearly three years into the concept, Esquer said the reception has exceeded expectations. “The product and the concept has been very well received. We give it our best every day, good quality food, all fresh, good ingredients, and the best service. It’s what we live for,” he told What Now Austin.
