A new Palestinian cafe is preparing to open in Jamaica Plain.
Bethlehem Cafe is currently under construction at 376 Centre Street in Hyde Square, according to a recent report from Jamaica Plain News. The all-day cafe is the latest venture from Reverend Ashlee Wiest-Laird, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain.
Although a full menu has not yet been released, Wiest-Laird told Jamaica Plain News that guests can expect an all-day lineup of Palestinian and Middle Eastern favorites. Breakfast will feature coffee, tea, juice, and pastries, while lunch and dinner will include classic dishes such as falafel, hummus, shawarma, maqluba, and musakhan. The cafe is expected to serve customers from the early morning until 9 p.m.
Wiest-Laird named the restaurant after Bethlehem, Palestine, where she has lived and continues to visit regularly. While she serves as pastor at First Baptist Church, Bethlehem Cafe is a separate, independently owned business and is not affiliated with the church.
Construction is officially underway at the Centre Street location, though an official opening timeline has not yet been announced. What Now Boston has reached out to Wiest-Laird for additional details and will share updates as they become available.
