After 25 years of service, Tennessee’s cherished BBQ is set to close. Whitt’s Barbeque will serve customers for the final time on Saturday, August 15. According to the official closure announcement, the restaurant has decided not to renew its lease for the property.
Whitt’s Barbeque Closing in Springfield
The longtime barbecue restaurant on Tom Austin Highway will close its doors. The family-owned restaurant, Whitt’s Barbeque, was founded in 2001.
It is popularly known for serving traditional, slow-smoked Southern BBQ. The menu features low- and slow-cooked meat by the pound over real hickory wood. Recommended dishes include loaded baked potatoes, potato salad, smoked chicken, and beef brisket.
In a social media post, the restaurant team announced that its final day of business will be August 15.
The team thanked customers for their support over the years, writing, “We have enjoyed meeting new friends, and we have enjoyed you letting us into your lives, whether it was birthdays, graduations, weddings, funerals, or even just stopping by the restaurant for your usual.”
The restaurant will remain operational until August 15 and invites the community to visit before its permanent closure.

Lease Issues Force Closure
In the closure announcement, the team explained that the restaurant’s lease had ended and the property owner decided not to renew the agreement.
The restaurant has tried to find other locations; however, they have been unable to settle on a new location so far. With a positive tone, the team added, “We will also be looking for different locations to set up around town. If anyone has availability for us in the future, please reach out, and we will check our schedule for availability.”
The restaurant’s mobile food operations will continue, according to the team. “We still have our food trailer and will be setting up at events and will be looking forward to serving you from it,” stated the team.
While the brick-and-mortar location is closing, the restaurant will continue serving customers through its food trailer. The closure of Whitt’s restaurant will mark a significant loss for the dining community.
