Shoreside Gelato, a new gelato shop from the family behind Shoreside Bakery, is getting ready to open in San Diego at 1035 8th Ave.

Shoreside Bakery announced the development in a social media post, noting that the new shop will be located right next door to the bakery. An exact opening date has not been announced, but the company said construction has already started and recently submitted documents to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. Customers can expect Shoreside Gelato to build on the family’s existing bakery concept with a focus on gelato.

Shoreside Bakery opened at 1040 8th Ave on September 19, 2025, after the family spent 2024 transforming the downtown space into a bakery. The business was founded by Lyubov, who began baking sourdough at home in 2023 while recovering from a health scare. Her husband, Vladimir, is also an owner and previously worked in construction, helping build the bakery himself.

The bakery describes Shoreside as a family business centered on sourdough, espresso, and Slavic food. Its current menu includes sandwiches, wraps, toasts, crepes, and dishes such as lamb plov, Ukrainian borscht, pelmeni, and quiche. The bakery also offers a selection of Eastern European sweets, including honey cake, Napoleon cake, Lviv syrniki, oreshki, and a variety of macarons and eclairs.

The new gelato shop will add another concept next to the family’s existing bakery operation on 8th Avenue. Shoreside Bakery currently operates daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., serving sourdough breads, pastries, coffee, and other food throughout the day. This will be an excellent landing space for Shoreside Gelato, giving the family room to expand its presence in downtown San Diego while keeping the new shop close to its original business.

“Seven months ago, we opened our little dream, Shoreside Bakery. And today we want to share some special news with you… We’ve started building Shoreside Gelato; it will be located right next door to our bakery,” according to the Instagram announcement. “Honestly, I’m writing this, and I’m still in shock… we just don’t know how to sit still. But that’s who we are. Our God is a Creator, and we are His children. Which means we are called to create, grow, and keep moving forward. And so… a new chapter begins. Thank you for being with us.”
