A popular Mexican grill chain is permanently closing its San Diego’s Escondido location. On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina will shut down after serving its last meal on August 30. The chain has announced the closure of its company-owned locations, with the Mira Mesa restaurant remaining open.
On the Border to Permanently Close in Escondido
On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina is preparing to close its 298 E Via Rancho Pkwy, Escondido, outlet permanently.
The restaurant served Tex-Mex dishes, including grilled items, margaritas, and beer selections. In the closure announcement post, the restaurant team shared that the lease of the property has ended. The team thanked the community for its support and wrote, “Thank you to our incredible guests, team members, and community for the memories.”
The restaurant encouraged customers to visit before the closure date.
“After many years of serving our communities, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has closed its company-owned restaurant locations,” according to the official website of the chain.

Mira Mesa Location Stays Open
The Instagram post stated that the Mira Mesa location remains open and will continue serving customers. They added, “We look forward to welcoming you at our Mira Mesa location.”
Located at 10789 Westview Pkwy, San Diego, the On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina will take forward the legacy of the chain.
Following the closure announcement, several loyal customers of the restaurant expressed their disappointment on social media.
As the closing days approach, the On The Border team hopes to celebrate the last remaining days with the community.
