A former professional skateboarder is opening a one-of-a-kind coffee and retail concept in Allen this winter. According to public filings, Flat Grounds Coffee plans to open at 790 Waverly Drive, within the Sloan Corners Retail development, with a soft opening planned for mid-December 2026.
What Now Dallas spoke to founder Michael Rammal, who confirmed the timeline and shared the vision behind what may be one of the most distinctive new concepts coming to North Texas.
The name says everything about who built it. “Flatground skateboarding is a type of skateboarding,” Rammal explained. “It incorporates the culture of skateboarding as well as the café culture.”
Rammal spent ten years as a professional skateboarder before transitioning into entrepreneurship, and Flat Grounds is his way of bringing those two worlds together under one roof: ground coffee and flatground tricks, community and culture, caffeine and collectibles. The concept spans a 2,823-square-foot space that will function simultaneously as a coffee shop, lounge, and vintage clothing boutique.
“It’s gonna be a one-of-a-kind lounge and a place that sells some of the coolest collectibles and clothing that you’ll ever see,” Rammal told What Now Dallas.
The location, set in a brand-new development with a lake in the back, was chosen after Rammal explored Dallas but couldn’t find a space that felt right for the concept. Allen did.
Beyond coffee and clothing, Flat Grounds is designed to be an active community hub. The team plans to host live music, weekend markets, and art shows on a regular basis.
“Everyone’s tired of just going to bars and drinking,” Rammal said. “We want to do something a little more fun and exciting, bringing a different style of coffee shop to the area.”
For Rammal, this is the flagship. Expansion is part of the long-term plan, but only once Flat Grounds has established itself and everything is running smoothly. “My vision is I’m bringing a concept to Allen that’s never been done before,” he told What Now Dallas.
