A well-known Austin seafood joint is preparing to close this month. After only three years of operation, Garbo’s is shutting down its Lamar Boulevard location. The North Mopac location of the chain will continue to serve the community.
Garbo’s on Lamar Blvd Says Goodbye
The family-owned restaurant, Garbo’s, operated by three sisters from the East Coast, became popular for its Maine and Connecticut-style fresh lobster rolls. The restaurant opened its first location in 2020 on Parmer and Mopac. In 2023, the restaurant opened its second brick-and-mortar location in the downtown Austin in the North Lamar neighborhood.
The Lamar location features a small seated dining area and a casual walk-up window to order from the menu. Recommended items include crab cakes, fried fish, fish and chips, and signature lobster rolls.
With a social media post, the restaurant team shared the closure announcement and wrote, “After so many good meals! Familiar faces! Special collabs! and memories! It’s time to say goodbye to our little Lamar home.”
Garbo’s, located at 626 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, will serve its last meal on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
In the post, the team explained that the lease for the location is ending and the restaurant has decided not to renew it.
The team added that they are grateful to the community and thanked them for their support.

North Mopac Location Remains Open
While the Lamar location is closing, Garbo’s will continue to serve the Austin community with its sister location and food trucks.
“This is goodbye to Lamar, not Garbo’s. You can still find us at North Mopac every day or out and about with our roaming food trucks!” stated the restaurant team.
The sister restaurant at 12709 N Mopac Expy, Austin, Texas, will remain open.
As the restaurant bids farewell, it encourages customers and community members to visit the restaurant. The team said, “Come see us, have a lobster roll, raise a glass, and help us give Garbo’s on Lamar the send-off it deserves.”
Even though Garbo’s journey on Lamar Boulevard was short-lived, it has created a lasting impression on the community.
