A new bakery and late-night concept is taking shape in Downtown Jacksonville, where Besa Bakery and Tea Room Speakeasy is set to bring pastries, desserts and cocktails to the Elbow District.

The concept is planned for 301 E. Bay Street, where the Jacksonville Downtown Investment Authority currently lists the project as under construction. The development is part of the ongoing transformation of the downtown area, with the new business planned as a European-style bakery during the day and a dessert and cocktail destination later in the evening.

Besa will occupy roughly 3,590 square feet of space, according to the Downtown Investment Authority. The project carries an estimated $550,000 build-out cost as the space is converted for its new use.

The daytime bakery is expected to focus on European-style pastries and baked goods, while the concept will shift gears in the evening with desserts, cocktails and a more intimate tea-room experience.

The speakeasy component will add another layer to the concept, giving the business a nightlife element alongside its bakery offerings. The project is located in Jacksonville’s Elbow District, an area that continues to add restaurants, bars and entertainment concepts along East Bay Street.

Besa joins a growing collection of food and beverage businesses planned for the downtown area as new residential, hospitality and entertainment projects continue to reshape the neighborhood.

An opening date has not been announced. More details about Besa Bakery and Tea Room Speakeasy are expected as construction progresses and the business moves closer to opening.
