“The intersection of North Beltline Boulevard and Forest Drive will look entirely different after new city park and retail space take shape,” said coverage published by South Carolina Public Radio about the project replacing the former Richland Mall in Forest Acres.
“I think people knew Richland Mall was underutilized and was no longer sustainable, and they were happy to see it go down,” says Mayor Thomas Andrews in the coverage. “People are curious to see what’s happening now and what is coming next.”
In July, The State published coverage describing the start of work on the mixed-use portion of the project. According to The State, the project includes apartments, the new city park, and retail space, along with a new Kroger marketplace.
“Spring 2028 is the projected timeline for the apartments and Kroger to take shape,” the coverage says.
With more than 2,700 stores across the United States, Kroger is a major player in the grocery store business. It also owns brands like Ralphs and Harris Teeter.
