Bogeys and Hoagies Brings Surprise Pizza Comeback to Harrisburg

A golf-inspired neighborhood spot is swinging into Harrisburg.

Bogeys and Hoagies, owned by Steven Vaccarella and his fiancée Kelly Franzetti will open at 2101 N. 2nd St.

“We both took up golf this year and have enjoyed it very much. We love to be outside. A lot of our peers are into it as well, so we thought it would be fun to do something around golf courses,” Franzetti told Whatnow Philadelphia.

The interior will incorporate nods to the game through black, red and tan colors.

“We wanted to keep the golf vibe going, but not go over the top with it. The space we leased did have carpet, so rather than putting in new carpet, we put in grass turf. We’re also going to make the walls feel outdoorsy with wood accents,” she said.

Bogeys and Hoagies will serve classic American fare, including cheesesteaks, pizza, burgers and wings, along with a “mini golf” menu for children.

Vaccarella’s father, Salvatore Vaccarella, owned nearby Palumbo’s Italian Eatery before closing it due to health concerns. He is returning to the new spot with his famed “Grandma Pizza.”

“It’s a square old-world style pizza that Italian grandmas used to make on baking sheets in their homes. It has wonderful marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese spread across with oil. Everyone knows it very well in Harrisburg,” Franzetti said.

Salvatore will oversee the pizza offerings.

“So many people have reached out to see where he is, how he is and what his plans are. I think it’ll be nice to have him back with the customers who miss him. He misses them as well,” she said.

As a nod to Franzetti’s Philadelphia roots, Bogeys and Hoagies will serve Philadelphia-style hoagies made with sharp provolone, Boar’s Head meats and prosciutto.

The team eagerly awaits the new spot’s debut in Harrisburg.

“We’re excited about Steven’s dad. We’re also excited to see what goes on in the area by the shop. It looks like there’s going to be some turnover in the homes, so it’s all going to come together,” she said.
