A beloved Vineland roadside barbecue stand is preparing to open its first permanent location.

Flame & Ember, owned by Ed Freed, will fire up its smoker at 55 Chestnut St. in the former Dodge’s Market building in Elmer, 42 Freeway reported.

The barbecue joint is known for its slow smoked brisket, pulled pork and turkey over cherry wood from South Jersey.

All meats can be served over house-made mac and cheese or as sandwiches with provolone on a grilled bakery brioche bun. Guests can upgrade the brisket with bacon, onion and sharp Cooper cheese or add coleslaw to the pulled pork.

A standout on the Flame & Ember menu is Grandpa Hahn’s ribs, served with its signature red sauce.

The last weekend of each month, the stand serves barbecue half-chickens cooked with vinegar and butter, then finished with its signature dry rub and red sauce.

As a nod to Dodge’s Market, the outlet reported Flame and Ember will also offer market staples, including fresh produce and a full deli stocked with meats and sandwiches.

The team is aiming for a Spring 2027 debut.

In the meantime, visit the stand on Fridays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
