Whole Foods Market opened a new 45,400-square-foot store, located at 201 W. A Street in downtown San Diego, on September 23, 2026. The store is open from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. daily. This is the fourth Whole Foods Market store in the San Diego area, and 95th in California.
The new location’s product assortment features more than 1,500 local items from California-based suppliers, sourced with the help of Patrick Wyman, Forager for Local & Emerging Brands at Whole Foods Market.
Features of the new downtown San Diego store include:
- An array of certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good produce with a large assortment of produce sourced from local suppliers including specialty tomatoes and cucumbers from Dassi Family Farm, varietal herbs and salads from Kenter Canyon Farms, and tomatoes from Durst Organic Growers. All fresh produce and floral items meet our Pollinator Health Policy to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.
- A coffee and juice bar offering made-to-order coffee, tea, juices and smoothies. Beverages include signature coffee drinks like the Brown Butter Cookie Latte and Berry Chantilly Latte, and fresh, juiced-to-order vegetable and fruit juice blends as well as signature smoothies like Passionately Green and Tropical Tango.
- Specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers. Local assortment includes charcuterie from Gusto, assorted chocolates from Chuao Chocolatier, and flatbread crackers from Rustic Bakery. The cheese counter is overseen by trained cheesemongers who can offer recommendations for any occasion.
- Curated grocery section filled with exclusive brand favorites and products from local suppliers including dried fruit and trail mix from CHUZA, hot sauce from Cien Chiles, organic eggs from Happy Hens, and jams from Jackie’s Jams.
- Seafood counter providing expert fishmonger service, ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat meal solutions, and a variety of local items including smoked salmon from The Santa Barbara Smokehouse and caviar from Tsar Nicoulai. All offerings are either sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed.
- Full-service meat counter, with animal-welfare certified selections and expert butchers available to cut steaks and poultry to order. Features include made-in-house fresh sausage, marinated and seasoned meats for quick and easy meals and a variety of local items including air-chilled chicken from Mary’s Chickens, hot dogs and sausages from True Story Foods, and grass-fed lamb from Pozzi Ranch. Animals must be raised with no antibiotics ever.
- Extensive beverage selection including spirits, more than 500 wines and more than 330 craft beers. The department will also feature product from 40 local breweries and 110 local wineries, including Hope Family Wines, Santa Barbara Winery, and Tablas Creek Vineyard.
- A Prepared Foods department featuring hot food and salad bars with a rotating menu of comfort foods and seasonal options, fresh pizza by the slice or by the whole pie, a Market Sandwich venue featuring a delicious menu of gourmet sandwiches, a Market Plate venue offering homemade-style meals, and sushi rolled fresh daily by Kikka Sushi.
- Bakery department offering bread baked fresh daily as well as everyday favorites, such as Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake and brown butter cookies. The department also carries a wide variety of special diet items and seasonal options including Pumpkin Cheesecake, Pumpkin Ginger Tea Bread, and Apple Brown Butter Cookies. Local offerings include hearth breads from Bread and Cie.
- Wellness & Beauty department with a wide range of body care, beauty, lifestyle and supplement products. Local items include toothpaste from Davids, castile soap from Dr. Bronner’s, wellness shots from Sol-ti, and detox enzymes from Juna.
In celebration of the opening, Whole Foods Market is providing a food donation to Porchlight Community Services, which makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores to help prevent food waste and serve the surrounding community. The nonprofit previously received a refrigerated van through Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which aims to enhance the ability of local food rescue organizations to transport surplus food to areas facing the greatest need. Whole Foods Market will also provide a monetary donation to Porchlight Community Services.
All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 flavors, colors, sweeteners and other ingredients commonly found in food. In addition, all beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban more than 240 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads.
