Grand Fir Brewing is preparing to open a second location this fall at 15252 S.E. Oregon 224, on the edge of Damascus and Happy Valley in Clackamas County. Co-founder and brewmaster Whitney Burnside confirmed to What Now Portland that the team is waiting on permits and doing light renovations before opening the doors.
The new spot will differ from the original Southeast Portland brewpub and supper club, which opened in 2022. The big addition is a large smoker installed on site. “Most of the food that we do will come off of that,” Burnside said. “So expect a lot more things off the smoker at that location.”
Grand Fir was started by Burnside, who was the first female brewmaster at 10 Barrel Brewing PDX, and Doug Adams, a Portland chef and “Top Chef” finalist. The new site is just a short distance from the Clackamas River and the Carver boat ramp, and the owners hope people coming off the water will stop in for a beer.
Reports describe a 1,100-square-foot taproom surrounded by a 13,000-square-foot beer garden. Plans include a heated, year-round solarium, a kids’ play area and outdoor events. The weekday menu is expected to feature barbecue sandwiches, clam chowder, seasonal salads, chips and queso and custom sausages. Adams has also talked about bringing steak and smoked chicken nights and crawfish and crab boils to the new spot. Two food trucks, Taqueria Las Palomas and Bangkok Station Thai Street Food, are already set to be on site, with a third on the way.
Burnside said the move reflects how the area has changed. “We are really excited to expand on the outskirts of the city. A lot of people have moved out that way. Lots of development, lots of families. So we’re really excited to have a little more outdoor space and have a really nice environment for families to enjoy,” she told What Now Portland.
