Desi Curry is an authentic Pakistani cuisine restaurant. The report documented the following findings and required corrective actions:

  • The handwashing sink in the back area had no paper towels, and an employee was making samosas in that area. Paper towels were provided during the inspection. A linen basket was kept in front of the back handwashing sink and was semi-blocking the sink. The staff were asked to remove the basket and keep all handwashing sinks equipped and accessible at all times.
  • Several food items in the two-door refrigerator were found above the required temperature. Beef nihari measured 61°F, while chicken tandoori measured 51°F. The owner said the items had been removed from refrigeration about two hours before the inspection. Staff were instructed to return the items to refrigeration for rapid cooling.
  • A plate of cooked chicken measured 46°F, was kept in the cold top insert, and was corrected immediately. The staff were instructed to store PHFs at or below 41°F or at or above 135°F.
  • The food safety manager certificate was also missing. The restaurant is required to provide proof of registration within 30 days and obtain a food safety manager certificate within 60 days. A reinspection will be conducted at the restaurant within 30 days.
  • The inspection report mentioned that lentils stored in a bulk bin in the dry storage room had weevils/beetle-like insects. The lentils were voluntarily discarded during the inspection, as they were unfit for consumption.
  • A large number of moths were also observed hovering and fluttering around in the dry storage room. The staff were instructed to remove the moths within 7 days.
  • Uncovered containers of spices and seasonings were found on a front counter shelf. The report also noted uncovered cooled food in the walk-in refrigerator. Staff were instructed to cover the items immediately.

  •  A bowl of flour was stored below the front kitchen paper towel dispenser and was moved during the inspection.
  • The report documented grease, debris, and residue in several areas of the restaurant. Buildup was found on the floors behind the cook line and around the floor sink near the front kitchen handwashing sink, as well as beneath prep cooler handles, on top of the warewashing machine, and on walk-in refrigerator fan covers. Staff were instructed to clean the facility within seven days.
  • Tongs were found hanging on the oven door handle. The staff were advised to store tongs in a proper and sanitary manner immediately. An ice paddle was also improperly stored on the floor below the handwashing sink in the back. The owner stated that the paddle was not in use. The staff were instructed to wash the ice paddle and store it properly.
  • A CFL bulb was missing a shatter-resistant cover in the dry storage room ceiling. The restaurant was advised to correct it within 7 days.
  • The EMD permit of the restaurant had also expired. The staff were instructed to correct it within 7 days.
