Topgolf has submitted plans to the city of Sacramento for its planned golf entertainment venue in South Natomas, a step toward construction after months of quiet on the project. The two-story venue is planned for 2050 Venture Oaks Way, just west of Interstate 5, and no opening date has been announced.

The project would be the first Topgolf within Sacramento city limits. It will sit on about 14.5 acres and span roughly 48,000 square feet. It will offer 80 hitting bays, a full-service restaurant and bar, and event space for parties, corporate outings and group gatherings.

The company already holds the city approvals it needs to build. Sacramento’s Planning and Design Commission approved the project in August 2025, after hearing from neighbors who raised concerns about noise, lighting and traffic, along with letters of support from groups including the Natomas Chamber of Commerce and the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The site has sat vacant for decades, and an earlier plan for a 12-story office tower never moved forward.

The latest filing was announced by Sacramento Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes, whose district includes the site. She shared the news on social media and said she is looking forward to seeing the project move ahead.

Topgolf has said the venue could create about 300 jobs and generate between $150 million and $250 million in economic activity. Plans call for outfield netting that rises well above the building, and the venue is expected to be open late, until midnight on weeknights and 2 a.m. on weekends.

Topgolf pairs a driving range with a lounge feel. Players hit microchipped golf balls at targets from climate-controlled bays, with scoring and games on screens, and a menu of food and drinks served at the bay. Its Roseville venue, which opened in 2016, is the closest to Sacramento. At about 102 bays and three stories, it is bigger than the Natomas plan. Roseville was also the first Topgolf in California.

The South Natomas project has been in the works for several years. The city first announced it in August 2024, and the company then requested a fee estimate in October 2024, before the commission’s approval last summer. Since then, there has been no public word on when construction would begin. Now that plans have been filed, the project can move into the building permit stage.

The latest filing was first reported by the Sacramento Business Journal.
