A new burger spot is getting ready to bring its own take on halal dining to West Philadelphia. Juicy Burger Bar will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, November 7, at 3 p.m., at 5610 Lancaster Avenue, Unit 800, in Overbrook Plaza. The independently owned restaurant is busy preparing to open the 4,000-square-foot flagship.
It’s owned by two entrepreneurs with backgrounds in business ownership, operations, hospitality, and community engagement. Both have longstanding ties to West Philadelphia, where they have operated businesses, created local employment opportunities, and supported neighborhood initiatives. This venture is the next step.
“The idea came from recognizing an opportunity to bring something fresh and different to Philadelphia’s dining scene,” co-owner Latosha Cheatham shared in an exclusive interview with What Now. “Juicy Burger Bar may be a new name in Philadelphia’s food scene, but the people behind it have been invested in West Philadelphia for years. This isn’t our introduction to the community. It’s an extension of our commitment to it.”
Development of the concept has been underway for over a year, with the owners involved in everything from developing the brand identity and signature menu to designing the restaurant, selecting equipment, perfecting recipes, and assembling the team. Their vision was to create a modern, family-friendly restaurant centered around 100% halal smash burgers, bold flavors, and creative menu options.
A major focus has been creating the restaurant’s signature sauces, testing menu combinations, and training employees to deliver a consistent experience. The team recently held a private tasting event to gather feedback and make final adjustments before opening.
“We’ve been intentional about every detail because our goal has always been to build something lasting, not simply open another restaurant,” she added.
One of the signature offerings is the Juicy Jawn, featuring American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and the restaurant’s house-made Juicy Sauce. Other highlights include the Juicy Jack, made with beef bacon and whiskey glaze, and the Surf & Smash, which pairs a smash burger with garlic-butter shrimp.
The menu will also feature crispy chicken sandwiches, tenders, wings, loaded fries, street corn, and crispy mozzarella Bang Balls. For something sweet, customers can choose from handcrafted specialty milkshakes, including Oreo Overload, Birthday Bash, King James, and Triple B Banana Bella Biscoff. The restaurant will also offer rolled ice cream.
“Our goal is to make halal dining exciting, creative, and appealing to everyone,” Cheatham explained. “We believe customers shouldn’t have to compromise on flavor or experience to enjoy halal food.”
Juicy Burger Bar will feature a modern design with a bold black, white, and orange color palette. The layout includes a contemporary dining area, an ordering station, a dedicated milkshake area, and custom branding throughout the restaurant.
As opening day approaches, the team is concentrating on staff training, inventory, equipment testing, and preparing its kitchen and customer service operations. The business anticipates opening with approximately 20 to 25 employees across management, kitchen operations, customer service, and support positions. It will offer dine-in and takeout, with plans to introduce delivery through Uber Eats and DoorDash.
While the immediate priority is establishing a successful flagship location, the owners already have their sights set on what comes next. The long-term vision includes expanding into additional locations and markets. Before pursuing that growth, however, the team wants to establish the systems, quality standards, and customer loyalty needed to support future expansion.
“From the beginning, we’ve approached Juicy Burger Bar as a brand, not simply a single restaurant,” she added. “Success means building a brand that people genuinely love and connect with.”
