Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is moving forward with plans to develop a 14-story dorm building adjacent to the school’s main Atlanta campus, at 1506 Spring Street.
Project plans were first unveiled August 2017 through the Midtown Alliance.
A building permit application Friday was submitted by Clayco—the real estate firm developing, designing, and building the student housing tower—to the City of Atlanta to begin foundation work for the project.
At the end of last year, the real estate firm completed construction on the art university’s Weston Dyson Residence Hall Complex at SCAD’s Savannah campus.
Once complete, 1506 Spring Street will house 106-units with 592-beds with communal spaces like a rooftop lounge and a coffee bar.
SCAD in recent years planned on demolishing its Spring House student housing—a motel-like structure—and replacing it with a new mid-rise property. Those plans were squashed.
Clayco did not immediately return What Now Atlanta’s request for comment and updated renderings.
