Spanish Harlem replaces Harlem Bar Downtown
Harlem Bar, the former Downtown soul food lounge, has reopened as a Latin American restaurant.
Called Spanish Harlem, the restaurant at 262 Edgewood avenue, replaced the shuttered Harlem Bar, according to
owner Jeanne Carrillo.
Harlem Bar, owned by the folks behind Social House and Rare, closed its doors May 21 of last year after a few months of struggling for business.
“I turned [Harlem Bar] into a Caribbean, Latino style restaurant and bar with a Nuyorican vibe,” said Carrillo.
Spanish Harlem serves upscale tapas and stays open nightly until 2:30 a.m. (midnight on Sundays). The location is in the vicinity of the Sweet Auburn Curb Market in the building that housed Harlem Bar.
Thrillist Atlanta described Spanish Harlem’s interior, noting their “rustic map-like mural of Cuba and the Caribbean, a wall featuring a plexiglass board of hanging gold-glittered circles, and a new stone/glass tiled bar sitting below a large, flashing, color-changing cross.”

Go Jeanne! WEPAAAAA!
Glad they are back open in the neighborhood. You were missed.
i’m going to monday’s opening, and hope the new incarnation will live up to the old in terms of food, but not service: the waitresses could barely be bothered. i remember one young lady who had the table of guys next to us talk her into sitting down and playing some kind of game…AFTER she’d just taken our order. i had to remind her that i kind of expected my food.
