A Southern-inspired smokehouse is headed to the North Shore.
Low & Slow Southern Kitchen + Tap is preparing to open at 11 Elm St in downtown Amesbury in the coming months, co-owners and twin brothers Gidi and Eitan Goldberg confirmed. The concept will blend Southern comfort food and refined barbecue, with an emphasis on smoked meats.
Early recipe testing shared on social media hints at what’s to come: steak tips tossed in an Old Fashioned–inspired BBQ sauce, a steady lineup of brisket, and indulgent desserts like a bananas Foster Nutella waffle. The menu is also expected to incorporate touches of “Southern flair” into familiar New England favorites, said the brothers.
Upstairs, guests will find the 1874 Bourbon Room, a speakeasy-style bar designed to evoke Prohibition-era charm. The space will spotlight high-end bourbons, whiskeys, and craft cocktails, alongside a curated selection of local and regional beers and a thoughtful wine list. 1874 will also serve as an event space for small groups and private parties.
Having spent the past 24 years working in restaurants in Arizona before recently relocating to the area, Chef Gidi offers more than two decades of industry experience. Eitan, on the other hand, is a longtime Massachusetts resident, bringing nearly three decades of local perspective to the project.
The brothers are hoping to welcome guests to Low & Slow Southern Kitchen + Tap in mid- to late June 2026, pending final construction timelines. For sneak peeks of the space and menu development, be sure to follow the eatery on Facebook and Instagram.
