A casual Boston breakfast spot is opening a dedicated bakery to keep up with demand for its housemade English muffins.
Sunny Girl is preparing to open a small production bakery at 33B Fleet Street in Boston’s North End, according to a recent report from Universal Hub. The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved retail sales for the space, which will be used exclusively to bake the café’s signature English muffins.
Most of the muffins produced at the bakery will make the short trip, just one block over, to Sunny Girl’s original location on Commercial Street, where they’ll be used to make the stacked breakfast and lunch sandwiches that helped put the café on the map.
During the licensing hearing, co-owner Peter Fiumara told board members that customers will also be able to stop by the new bakery to purchase bags of fresh English muffins to take home. The compact space will not offer seating, meaning guests will need to enjoy their purchases elsewhere. Proposed operating hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Founded in the spring of 2023 by Fiumara and chef-owner Jesse Rosen, Sunny Girl has become known for its all-day egg sandwiches, burgers, lunch offerings, and, of course, English muffins.
The Fleet Street bakery isn’t the company’s only project in the works. Sunny Girl is also preparing to open a full-service café in South Boston’s Perkins Square this summer, where customers can expect the same menu of breakfast and lunch favorites.
The Sunny Girl team could not be reached for comment, and an opening date for the new bakery has not yet been announced. For updates, follow @sunnygirl_boston on Instagram.
