A popular South Shore Mexican-fusion restaurant is preparing for a new chapter.

After seven years serving customers in North Plymouth, Jefes: A Betta Bar & Grille is relocating to East Wareham, where it will reopen as Jefes Masa Cantina. The restaurant will take over the former Barnacle Bill’s Seafood space at 3126 Cranberry Highway and is expected to debut sometime in August or early fall 2026, pending construction progress and final approvals.

According to a recent report from Wareham Week, the original restaurant will continue operating at 390 Court Street through the end of June 2026.

Owner Michael Grant Jr. told What Now Boston that the move was driven by a combination of practical advantages and long-term growth opportunities. The upcoming location offers greater visibility along Cranberry Highway, one of the region’s busiest commercial corridors, as well as significantly more parking—a longtime challenge at the Plymouth restaurant.

The East Wareham space will also allow the team to create a dining experience that better aligns with the restaurant’s evolving vision. Plans include outdoor seating and an updated atmosphere designed to feel refreshed and refined.

“The rebrand to Jefes Masa Cantina reflects a greater emphasis on what has always been at the heart of our concept: handmade tortillas, a scratch kitchen, and food made with care,” explained Michael. “While guests can still expect many of the tacos and menu staples they have come to love, we’re excited to further highlight the craftsmanship and fresh ingredients that set us apart.”

Alongside longtime favorites like tacos, burritos, and loaded nachos, the team is developing several new dishes inspired by the restaurant’s coastal Massachusetts surroundings while remaining true to the flavors and techniques that have defined the brand from the beginning.

“We look forward to welcoming both longtime customers and new guests into the space and sharing more updates as we get closer to opening day,” said Michael. In the meantime, fans still have a few weeks to visit Jefes in Plymouth before the restaurant begins its transition to Wareham.
