An Everett martial arts school is preparing to expand to the North Shore.

Budo Karate Dojo will open its second Massachusetts location at 58 Pulaski Street, Unit A1-6 in Peabody, with a grand opening planned for September 2026. The business recently announced the expansion on social media, calling it a major milestone made possible by the support of its students and families.

Owner and Chief Instructor Tony Almeida told What Now Boston that the new dojo will bring the same traditional Shotokan Karate program that has long served the Everett community.

“Just like our Everett location, the new Dojo will offer traditional Shotokan Karate classes for children, teens, and adults,” Almeida explained. “Our mission is not only to teach martial arts, but also to help students develop discipline, confidence, respect, perseverance, and strong character.”

The Peabody location is designed to make Budo Karate Dojo’s instruction more accessible to families across the North Shore while maintaining the philosophy and standards that have defined the school’s success.

Almeida’s own martial arts journey began in Brazil at just six years old. After moving to a town without a karate school as a teenager, he continued training on his own before founding his first karate club in 1990. He later earned his black belt in São Paulo, moved to the United States in 2005, and has since spent more than 35 years teaching traditional Shotokan Karate.

His students have gone on to compete at the state, national, and international levels, with several representing Team USA at World Championship competitions in countries including Poland and Spain. Almeida himself has also earned numerous competitive titles throughout his career, including a Karate World Cup championship and multiple first-place finishes in tournaments across the United States and Brazil.

“Opening our second location is the realization of a long-held dream and a reflection of the trust our students and their families have placed in our work throughout the years,” said Almeida.
