A neighborhood brewery and wood-fired restaurant plans to expand into Richmond Hill.
Hop Atomica broke ground in Richmond Hill’s Heartwood community, across from Del Webb, a 55-plus residential neighborhood on Heartwood Avenue, according to Savannah Morning News.
Brothers Smith and Pratt Mathews own the original Savannah location. The new outpost will be operated by longtime regulars Mark and Tanya Barrett. The brand’s growth extends beyond Savannah, with another location in Louisville, Kentucky, led by Paul Berner and Kenneth Suchower.
The restaurant is known for its scratch-made, wood-fired pizzas. Standouts include the “Hot Mess,” topped with red sauce, mozzarella, red chili flakes, hot soppressata, stracciatella and crumbled pistachio; the “Cowboy Candy,” layered with chorizo, ’nduja, fior di latte, jalapeño, Mike’s Hot Honey and red sauce; and the “Daffin,” finished with confit garlic, olive oil, breadcrumbs, parsley and mozzarella.
The menu also features salads and sandwiches, including the “Strawberry Fields” with arugula, macerated strawberries, burrata, pistachio and white balsamic, and “The Stallion” sandwich, stacked with mortadella, hot soppressata, salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, red onion, tomato, red peppers, mayo and Atomic sauce.
The Barretts told the outlet they plan to keep the signature menu items, while leaving room to introduce their own twists in the future.
To complement the famed menu, Hop Atomica brews its own beer in-house using original recipes, including dessert-inspired fruited sours and hazy IPAs. The bar also features a lineup of signature and seasonal cocktails.
“Our space is designed to inspire connection, creating a hub for gathering where real bonds are formed. We’re not just thankful for the opportunity to serve you, we’re profoundly grateful to be an integral part of our community and celebrating togetherness and shared moments is at the heart of it all,” the website reads.
An official opening date has not been announced, but the team plans to open in the first quarter of 2027. For updates, visit the Hop Atomica website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
