A local Mexican restaurant is moving to a new location just a short drive away from its current digs.

According to a recent Facebook update, Madres’ Mexican Restaurant will soon relocate from its original spot on Bacons Bridge Rd to 100 Central Ave in Downtown Summerville.

Owners and sisters Mariana Godinez LaRoche and Karen Godinez Butler told What Now Charleston that the move was prompted by a desire to attract more foot traffic. “After considering several options, Downtown Summerville seemed perfect,” they said.

Inspired by their mother’s family recipes and Guanajuato heritage, LaRoche and Butler founded Madres’ in 2019. The restaurant offers authentic Mexican fare with a healthier and often vegan/vegetarian twist. For example, their rice is prepared with garlic and onion instead of the traditional chicken broth base, and their beans are cooked with oil instead of lard.

While the exact opening date for the new Central Ave location has not yet been finalized, LaRoche and Butler plan to launch the new locale before the end of August 2024.

In the meantime, patrons can visit the Bacons Bridge location, where they will continue to serve fajitas, quesadillas, and more from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday until August 6th, 2024.
