What Now reported last on plans for Crate & Barrel, the household goods brand that offers “inspired living through high-quality products, exclusive designs, and timeless style,” to open its first South Carolina store in the space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, at 1744 Towne Centre Way in Mount Pleasant.

As mentioned, however, this new Crate & Barrel is not the only brand planning to make its South Carolina debut in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space.

According to coverage by the Post and Courier, a new L.L. Bean is also planned for the space, which has been unoccupied for about three years.

Headquartered in Freeport, Maine, L.L. Bean provides apparel and products both for the outdoors and for wearing daily. The catalog includes men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel, plus footwear, bags, travel gear, and more.

“We believe the more time you spend outside together, the better. That’s why we design products that make it easier to take longer walks, have deeper talks and never worry about the weather,” says the L.L. Bean website. “It’s like our founder always said – being outside brings out the best in us.”

That founder is Leon Leonwood Bean, who invented the Maine Hunting Shoe in 1911 in a stroke of inspiration that has taken the brand to stores across the United States, Canada, and Japan.

The Post and Courier specifies that submitted plans show L.L. Bean and Crate & Barrel dividing the former Bed Bath & Beyond space.

“According to renderings Seamon Whiteside submitted, L.L. Bean, or Tenant A, would set up on the left side when facing the building, taking up 15,483 square feet of space,” the coverage says. “The neighboring Crate & Barrel, Tenant B, would occupy the remaining 18,830 square feet with its home goods and furniture selection.”
