Buc-ee’s is pursuing a second North Carolina location in Rocky Mount, where the Texas-based travel center chain has a 34-acre property under contract near Interstate 95. The proposed site still requires rezoning, and the city’s planning board is scheduled to consider the request on November 10, according to a CLT Beat Instagram post.
The Rocky Mount project would bring Buc-ee’s to another part of North Carolina as the company expands its presence in the state. The CLT Beat post identifies the Interstate 95 site as the location under consideration, but does not provide a confirmed opening date, construction schedule or estimated investment for the Rocky Mount store.
Buc-ee’s travel centers offer more than fuel stops. The company’s official website lists food options including barbecue sandwiches, breakfast items, chicken tenders, hot foods, cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, beef jerky and homemade fudge. Its stores also carry branded merchandise and offer fuel.
The Rocky Mount proposal comes as Buc-ee’s first North Carolina travel center is under construction in Mebane near the Interstate 40 and Interstate 85 interchange. That location is targeting a November 2027 opening, according to CLT Beat.
The Mebane project provides a sense of the scale associated with the brand’s North Carolina expansion. CLT Beat reported that the site spans approximately 32 acres and is planned to include 120 gas pumps and parking for 650 vehicles. The post also cited an estimated investment of $60 million to $70 million and 200 full-time jobs, with starting pay of $18 per hour.
For Rocky Mount, the next key step is the rezoning process. The planning board’s consideration on November 10 could help determine whether the proposed site moves forward.
