Fried and sauteed dishes are coming to the western suburb.
Following the success of her first location, Nanetta Dancy-Matthews is getting ready to introduce her second Vari’s Southern Cuisine at 2712 St. Charles Road in Bellwood. This will serve many of the same menu items locals of the suburb have come to enjoy. Right now, she is hoping to open in late October.
Dancy-Matthews manages her Hillside business at 4735 Butterfield Road, near the Wolf Road intersection. She opened at another location on Mannheim Road in November 2022, and moved to Butterfield Road after outgrowing the space. Her Southern dishes have been met with praise from the community.
“We started as a small family-owned restaurant and have grown to become a beloved local establishment. We are proud to have become a staple in the community and look forward to many more years of serving our customers,” says the description on their website.
The restaurant, open daily from noon-7 p.m., serves slabs of fried ribs, catfish filet and wings with fries as mains. Other meats like lamb and oxtail are also offered, and sides include sweet potatoes, greens, cabbage and rice with gravy. Dancy-Matthews said there will be a few new unnamed items.
The team is opening the second location on the south side of St. Charles Road. Joe’s Hideaway bar is nearby, along with Shark’s Fish & Chicken. This is on the east side of the suburb, near the Melrose Park Metra station.
What Now Chicago has reached out to Dancy-Matthews and is awaiting more information on the new location.
