What started as a pop-up is turning into a full-service restaurant and event space.
The owners of The Woodlawn are teasing their brick-and mortar concept coming to 1200 E 79th Street this year. This is the same team which opened Nafsi South Shore Beach, a lakefront restaurant on the South Side. Right now, the estimated opening date is sometime this fall.
In a recent post, the owners including Donnell Digby expressed their excitement about opening in the Grand Crossing area. They describe the space as a destination for brunch, date night or a family outing. Handcrafted cocktails will be served.
“Every day, we’re getting one step closer to bringing a new dining experience to the community. Renovations are well underway, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead,” says the post.
While a menu hasn’t been revealed, brunch, lunch and dinner entrees are to be expected. When the restaurant was a pop-up, food served included tacos and fries, wings, flatbread pizzas, salads and loaded sandwiches. Desserts and charcuterie boards were also options.
The Woodlawn is under construction at the northeast corner of S Woodlawn Avenue and E 79th Street. Other businesses nearby include Super Cycle Laundromat and Shimmery D’s clothing store. This is near the 79th Street (Chatham) Metra station.
Digby and the team will be revealing more information about the new restaurant on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
