Denton will soon be getting an ice cream shop that makes the already sweet treat even sweeter by serving it up with a side of purpose and kindness. Howdy Home Made Ice Cream, a concept that “harnesses the hope and hard work of people with special needs”, is opening a shop in Aubrey, with construction slated to start this summer.

Paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows that the scoop shop will be getting a newly constructed home at 26564 E University Drive, Suite 200. The building will span 1,400 square feet.

Work is projected to begin on Howdy Home Made on August 1 of this year and estimated to wrap by December 31. Given these projections, it seems the shop will likely open in early 2027.

Howdy Home Made has an admirable mission- to ”Reshape the way society views individuals with unique disabilities through our unwavering dedication to hiring, training and commitment to leadership and advancement.” The company was founded by Tom Landis in 2015 and has expanded to 7 locations peppered across the United States.

Of course, the ice cream itself is top-notch. The website explains: “we are proud that it’s all super premium, homemade, and we offer unique flavors like our best-selling Dr Pepper Chocolate Chip.”
