Two surfers, one blender, wholesome fruity bowls and smoothies, and a Texas expansion. According to public filings, Playa Bowls plans to open a new location at 26556 E. University Drive, Building 100, Suite 110.
Playa Bowls offers healthy bowls made with açaí, pitaya, coconut, oatmeal, and kale bases, topped with fresh fruit and granola.
What Now Dallas spoke with franchisee Megan Weis, co-owner of the upcoming location alongside David Buttler. Weis told What Now Dallas that she estimates the restaurant could open sometime between September and mid-December, depending on the project timeline and permitting.
The owners were drawn to the area because of its growth and the development taking place along the corridor between the site and Denton.
The couple first discovered Playa Bowls during a family vacation in Rosemary Beach, Florida, where their children quickly became regular breakfast customers. “The first time I tried it, I fell in love with the Nutella bowl,” Weis told What Now Dallas.
After their positive experience with the brand, they decided to pursue several Playa Bowls locations across DFW.
The owners are excited about the area’s potential and hope to add more health-conscious dining options along U.S. 380. “One of the reasons we’re opening the restaurants is because it allows us to give back to the community, be a part of the community,” Weis told What Now Dallas.
