Sushi Sakana, the DFW-based sushi restaurant known for its authentic Japanese cuisine and Korean dishes, is opening a new location in Prosper, Texas, adding to its growth push, which also includes a new Frisco restaurant.
According to public filings, the Prosper location is slated for 1140 S Preston Rd, Suite 30, following the Frisco location, at 3245 Main St. What Now Dallas spoke to co-owner James Park, who shared that the Prosper location is slated to open its doors in early 2027, while the Frisco location is expected to open this September.
For Park, the decision to plant a flag in Prosper wasn’t a hard one. He’s called Frisco home for nearly two decades and has watched Prosper grow from an early-stage suburb into one of the hottest addresses in North Texas.
“I’ve known Prosper since the very beginning, before it was developed. Now that the area is growing, we had a chance to get a good location there,” he told What Now Dallas.
Sushi Sakana has traditionally concentrated its restaurants in Dallas, Southlake, and Plano. Prosper marks a deliberate move into the region’s newer, fast-growing communities, and into a market with an audience Park is eager to serve.
“Prosper has a lot of young families, and they love sushi. We want to bring them better food for a better life, reasonable pricing, but high-quality, authentic sushi, along with some Korean dishes,” he told What Now Dallas.
Park and his wife bring more than two decades of experience in the sushi restaurant business to the new locations. That experience is central to what they’re bringing to Prosper and Frisco alike.
“My wife and I have more than twenty years in the sushi restaurant business, and we know how big and how fast sushi has grown in the DFW area,” Park said. “Sushi is great food, healthy, and full of flavor. We want to bring that experience to people in these communities.”
Family is also core to the concept, Park said, describing Sushi Sakana as a restaurant designed to welcome everyone from young children to grandparents.
“My restaurant is family-friendly, from young kids to the whole family. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy good-quality sushi, with great service, in a comfortable environment,” he told What Now Dallas.
Frisco and Prosper aren’t the end of the road for Sushi Sakana’s expansion. Park said the restaurant group is already eyeing a ninth location near Preston Road and Royal Lane.
For now, though, the focus is on welcoming Frisco and Prosper. Park had a message for both communities as opening day approaches.
“Frisco and Prosper are really, really growing cities, and we’re so happy to have the chance to serve these great communities,” he said. “I want all my neighbors to enjoy it with their families, because my restaurant is family-friendly, from young kids to the whole family, everyone deserves a chance to have good-quality sushi, great service, and a comfortable time with us.”
