The prominent Detroit restaurant group is rethinking an upcoming hotel space.
Joe Vicari Restaurant Group will debut another Joe Muer Seafood + Chops location at the anticipated JW Marriott Detroit Water Square hotel at 100 Steve Yzerman Drive downtown. Originally, the restaurant group planned on opening an Andiamo at the building, but have now decided to continue expanding the brand in the city. The restaurant will open alongside the hotel’s debut in January next year.
“To meet growing customer demand, Joe Muer Seafood + Chops will continue to prominently feature fresh seafood from around the globe along with an expanded selection of prime and Wagyu steaks, and other new, exciting offerings,” said Joe Vicari, owner of the Joe Vicari Restaurant Group. “We are proud to be part of the new JW Marriott Detroit Water Square and to introduce the legendary Joe Muer Seafood to a new generation of diners through this remarkable waterfront development.”
The initial announcement came from the Sterling Group, which heads the Water Square project. It is connected to the Huntington Place convention center, and Joe Muer will join a lobby bar at the hotel. While the current Joe Muer is still open at the Renaissance Center, it won’t be around much longer due to the building’s partial demolition.
Concepts under the award-winning Joe Vicari Restaurant Group also include The Detroit Cowboy, Birmingham Pub, Vito’s Bakery and 29-41 Mediterranean. The group goes back to 1982 when Vicari opened Ram’s Horn in Warren.
Joe Muer Seafood + Chops has become a Detroit destination for both fresh caught seafood and steaks. The current restaurant at the Renaissance Center features entrees like grilled salmon and Alaskan red king crab legs, along with a raw bar and sushi options. For the new location, the group plans to expand the seafood options, working with executive chef Najwa Mansour to bring more “elevated menu items.” A main dining room, bar, lounge area and private wine room are all to be included.
