A South Asian grocery chain is expanding in Southeast Michigan.
The Patel Brothers team is building a new location in Metro Detroit, this time at 6310 N Canton Center Road. This was the former Canton Computers site, which has since been demolished. Head of Day-to-Day Operations Swetal Patel told What Now Detroit they do not have a firm opening date right now.
“Our mission is to bring the best ingredients from South Asia right to your doorstep,” says the description on their website. Those shopping can find all of the fresh produce they need, as well as ingredients, snacks and other grocery needs. Kitchens at the locations sell fresh breads like rotis and parathas, street food including samosas and desserts
Patel Brothers has been around since 1974, and is known as the biggest Indian grocery store in the U.S. The company currently operates around 56 stores across the country, with four in Michigan. These are in Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills, Garden City and Troy.
The building is on the south side of the Hanford Road intersection. Papaya Fruit Market is also at this intersection, and other restaurants are nearby including Kolachi Kitchen and AlAmeer Canton. The township is about 30 miles from downtown Detroit.
As construction continues to progress, the Patel Brothers will be updating the community on the opening date.
