The Riot Comedy Club is on the move. The entertainment restaurant known for hosting some of the hottest and newest comedy acts in the region has vacated Rudyard’s in Montrose and is planning to open in its new home in the Washington Corridor at 1925 Washington Ave. this summer, according to the Houston Business Journal.
It is said that after six years of service, The Riot Comedy Club has outgrown the second floor of Rudyard’s. The plan is to serve the community out of the Riot Comedy Club Conroe, located inside Guadalajara’s Bar and Grill at 219 Simonton St, during the transition.
What Now Houston reached out to The Riot Comedy Club founder Brian Gendron for more details about the move. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but as we’ve grown, it became clear we needed a space that fully delivers the experience we want to give our guests, our comedians, and our staff,” Gendron said on the brand’s website.
“We’re not just changing locations – we’re building a dedicated venue for comedy that supports Houston’s growing scene, bringing together live shows, hospitality, and an expanded food and beverage program.”
A comedian and entrepreneur, Gendron founded The Riot Comedy Club in 2020. What began as a modest pandemic-era stand-up showcase on the second floor of Rudyard’s British Pub in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood has grown into one of the most respected independent comedy brands in the country. The comedy club has expanded statewide and is upgrading to its own standalone venues.
Designed specifically for live comedy, the new 4,700-square-foot Washington Avenue venue features a custom 150-seat showroom, ample parking, full food and beverage service, a daytime coffee shop and café, a full evening bar, and full ADA accessibility.
“Houston has an exciting, emerging and very underrated comedy scene, and we want to be the place that helps it grow,” Gendron said.
“We’re committed to building a venue where local comedians can develop, national acts want to stop, and audiences can be part of something that’s genuinely good for this city.”
Keep your eyes and ears open for the latest on this move!
The Riot Comedy Club is expected to reopen at its new venue in the Washington Corridor at 1925 Washington Ave. this summer.
