A new concept is on the horizon for Missouri City, and it’s one that’s steering clear of the typical sports bar playbook. Unity Coffee and Sports Lounge is setting up shop at 1300 Grand Park Dr, aiming to be a place where neighbors gather, ideas are shared, and caffeine, not alcohol, is the main event.

The concept is being led by three business partners: Lanard Butler, Thomas Mitchell, and Kentereian Thomas. For Butler, the idea came naturally through his existing network and past ventures. “This will be something a little different,” he said. While Unity will carry a full lineup of coffee and café-style drinks, hot and cold, it won’t serve alcohol. Instead, the focus is on creating a space that welcomes all ages and energy levels, from morning meetings to game-day hangouts.

Butler, who has a background in construction and communications, is stepping into hospitality for the first time, but not without inspiration. “I’m a foodie,” he said, adding that he’s traveled extensively, sampling dishes from across the globe. Though the final food offerings are still being decided, the plan is to serve light bites and small items to complement the beverage menu.

Unity will also feature a private rental area for events or meetings and is already getting involved in local outreach. Butler and the team have started spreading the word by having car washes near the site, building anticipation for a fresh gathering place that feels grounded in community.

The projected opening is set for August or September 2025.
