Academy Sports and Outdoors is working on opening its 126th Texas store! The major value-oriented sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer is planning to open a 55,000-square-foot store in the Magnolia Village shopping center, according to the Houston Business Journal. Academy Sports and Outdoors is expected to open at 4353 Magnolia Village Drive.
The new Academy Sports and Outdoors store will open in the Magnolia Village shopping center in good company. Lowe’s anchors the center, and Academy Sports and Outdoors will open right next door. Other retailers and food and drink concepts include 7 Brew Coffee, Milano Day Spa, Crust Pizza Co., and more.
What Now Houston reached out to Academy Sports and Outdoors Houston Operations Manager Paul Solis to find out more about the upcoming opening. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Academy Sports + Outdoors is one of the nation’s largest sporting goods and outdoor stores,” the Academy Sports and Outdoors website reads.
“We offer a broad assortment of quality hunting, fishing, and camping equipment and gear, along with sports and leisure products, footwear, apparel and much more.”
Academy Sports + Outdoors began in 1938 when founder Max Gochman opened the Academy Tire Shop in San Antonio, Texas. The company transitioned through military surplus before evolving into its current sporting goods format. Headquartered in Katy, Texas, the company went public on the Nasdaq (ASO) in 2020.
Combining major national brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Carhartt with an extensive portfolio of popular private-label house brands such as Magellan Outdoors, BCG, Game Winner, and Outdoor Gourmet, Academy Sports and Outdoors offers accessible, everyday low prices. The company sells a broad mix of athletic apparel, footwear, team sports gear, fitness equipment, patio and barbecue items, and specialized outdoor gear for hunting, fishing, and camping.
There are now more than 330 Academy Sports and Outdoors stores across 21 US states, with a good portion in Texas.
Academy Sports and Outdoors is anticipated to open in the Magnolia Village shopping center at 4353 Magnolia Village Drive this fall.
