According to a brief report in JDR, a popular chicken joint will be moving just a stone’s throw over.

The Fleming Island Zaxby’s will be hopping from 1525 to 1517 County Road 220, pending Clay County review. Local readers may recognize the new address as a former Whataburger.

Originally founded in 1990 in Georgia, Zaxby’s is known for being a Southern-inspired fast-casual chain of restaurants serving chicken fingers, buffalo wings, sandwiches, salads, fries and its famous “Zax Sauce.”

Through franchising, the brand has grown to over 925 locations in the U.S. over the last thirty years, with a quarter of those locations being in Georgia. There are currently 112 Zaxby’s in Florida.

According to Zaxby’s franchising website, “through a love of bringing people together over our food, we strive to impact our communities through opportunity, growth, and experience.”

The Zax sauce is a closely guarded secret recipe, which originally was made solely by its founder, Zach McLeroy, before manufacturing the sauce for retail. It’s said that the sauce is still a secret, due to the manufacturing process ensuring not one person would know the recipe from start to finish.

Zaxby’s also prides itself in using fresh ingredients and 100% white meat chicken and aims to give back to local communities.
