A new grocery store is planned for Jacksonville’s Moncrief neighborhood, where Moncrief Grocery & More is set to take over the former Price Rite Food Store building.
According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the proposed 2,100-square-foot store will be led by members of the family behind Holley’s BBQ, the longtime Jacksonville restaurant. The project is part of an effort to bring new life to the property at 3528 Moncrief Road.
The grocery store is expected to offer fresh produce and breakfast service. Further details about its product selection, menu and day-to-day operations have not yet been announced.
The site previously housed Price Rite Food Store, which closed after the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office investigated suspected drug activity at the business.
Moncrief Grocery & More will be a new grocery concept at the existing site. It has not been confirmed whether the family plans to operate additional grocery locations.
The Holley family has longstanding ties to the neighborhood through Holley’s BBQ, which has operated in Jacksonville since 1937. The restaurant is known as one of the city’s oldest continuously operating barbecue businesses.
An opening date for Moncrief Grocery & More has not been announced, and further details about the project are still emerging.
