Jacksonville’s restaurant scene appears to be about to welcome a new Dominican restaurant into the mix. This week, What Now examined plan review paperwork submitted by Raices G & R Inc. for a new restaurant called Punta Cana Restaurant, which would open at 116 N Julia St.
Punta Cana is the name of a town in the Dominican Republic, and it’s also the name of a Dominican restaurant with two locations in Florida, in Kissimmee and Pembroke. It’s not yet known what, if any, relation the Punta Cana Restaurant planned for 116 N Julia St has to this other Punta Cana Restaurant.
What Now reached out on Wednesday to Eileen Rodriguez, co-owner of the restaurant planned for Julia Street. Rodriguez was not immediately available for comment on plans for the opening or on Punta Cana Restaurant’s planned menu offerings.
This leaves us guessing for now on some of the finer details. Opening in the North Julia Street location, Punta Cana Restaurant would join event venue The Grand Downtown, becoming a part of a restaurant community that includes nearby spots like Mixed Fillings Pie Shop, Rojas Pizza, Indulgence Southern Bistro, and more.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
