According to recent reporting in JBJ, a local coffee shop will soon be moving into a key downtown address in St Augustine.

The Kookaburra team has signed on to relocate into the space at 18 Cathedral Place, replacing Ancient City Brewing.

Being the site of a former movie theater, the location will be a significant upgrade for the coffee establishment which will allow them to create “unforgettable experiences for our guests,” co-owner Spencer Hooker told the Business Journal in an email.

“This move just feels right. Our customers will enjoy an expanded seating area and greater ease of service. We’re going to make this spot as unique and iconic as our old spot,” Hooker said.

Now known as The Kookaburra on The Square, the new store will “offer about 1,300 square feet for customers to spread out in the Aussie-American espresso bar and pie shop,” the report adds.

“It’s definitely bittersweet,” Hooker said to the JBJ, reflecting on the move.

“Megan and I opened the Downtown shop ourselves and worked it seven days a week, 12-15 hours a day for almost a year before we could start to bring on staff. We know every quirky detail of that shop, and it has influenced everything that The Kookaburra has become.”

“In July 2012 we opened our first shop downtown at 24 Cathedral. After almost 13 amazing years it’s time for an upgrade!:” a recent social media post states.

“We’re so excited to move into a bigger space on the square (don’t worry, we aren’t going far!) and in order for us to prepare for our big move, Saturday March 1st will be our last day of service at our OG shop. We’ll be working hard to open at our new location as quickly as possible, in the mean time visit any one of our other shops and be sure to check out the new Kookaburra Outpost at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre!”

“Stop in this week and help us send 24 Cathedral off with a bang! Keep an eye on social media for some specials, contests, memories of our time at the shop, as well as updated info on the relocation!”

No opening date has been set, but Hooker and the Kookaburra team are expecting a “quick turnaround.”
