El Super is embarking on another Las Vegas Valley opening. According to a Clark County permit, the Mexican grocery store brand will open its sixth Las Vegas Valley location in the Paradise neighborhood within the Central Valley Shopping Center at 4790 E Flamingo Rd.
What Now Las Vegas reached out to the Senior Regional Director of Operations for the store chain’s parent company, Chedraui USA, Jorge Fernandez, to find out more about the exciting new development. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“At El Super our mission is to be the supermarket of choice for the communities we serve and to provide our customers with the assortment and quality products they expect at the lowest possible prices,” the El Super website reads.
“As you walk into our stores, you feel at home among the vast selection of grocery products from Latin America as well as local favorites, with delicious scents and flavors coming from our in-store bakery with freshly made breads and tortillas.”
Launched in 1997 by Bodega Latina Corporation, doing business as El Super, the brand was initially headquartered in Paramount, California. El Super opened its first grocery store in South Gate, California, in June 1997. Now owned by Chedraui USA, a subsidiary of Grupo Comercial Chedraui—the third-largest retail company in Mexico — the brand now operates alongside Fiesta Mart under the Chedraui USA umbrella.
“Founded in 1920 in Xalapa, Veracruz, Grupo Comercial Chedraui is one of Mexico’s leading grocery store chains with more than 102 years of service,” the Chedraui USA website reads.
“Since its founding, Grupo Comercial Chedraui has defined itself through its social and economic impacts on the communities it serves in Central, Southeast, and Northeast Mexico.”
Positioned as an authentic Hispanic supermarket chain, “El Super Cuesta Menos” offers affordable produce, meat departments, and in-house bakeries tailored to Latino communities. The brand grew its market presence by absorbing regional competitors, such as acquiring Gigante store locations in Southern California in 2008. Since its inception, the brand has expanded across the American Southwest, operating over 60 stores across states including California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas.
There are now more than 64 El Super stores operating across California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas, with six locations in the state of Nevada: five in the Las Vegas area and one in Reno.
What Now also reached out to the Executive Vice President at Chedraui USA, Richard Phegley, to find out more about expansion plans. But we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
